Mister Sunday in Sydney

We’re bringing Mister Sunday to Sydney.

In the ten-or-so years we’ve hosted our Sunday afternoon fete, it’s only left NYC for one other town, but now, with help of the fine folks at Astral People, we’ve found a secret outdoor spot in Sydney’s inner city, and we’re landing the party there on Sunday, February 25.

We’ll be doing it just how we do back home: a four-point sound system, good vibes, a cell-phone-free dance floor and tunes from Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter from beginning to end. There’ll be good food from Eat Art Truck to keep you going and plenty of places off the dance floor for a nice chat and a hang.

The party runs from 1pm to 8pm, and our rules will be in force to keep the vibe right. (The long story short is don’t use your phone or smoke on the dance floor, and do unto others. You knew that last one already.)

If you’re in the Harbour City, we hope you’ll join us. If you know folks down under, let ’em know…

New Year’s, Two Ways

We’re trying something different for New Year’s Eve.

It starts with an intimate, countdown-free edition of Planetarium, our immersive, hi-fi listening session. We’ll go from 7pm to 12:30am, and dinner’s included. There are yoga blankets in-house, but you can bring whatever else you need to get comfortable. Douglas Sherman, a musical host from The Loft and Joy, is playing records with us.

At 12:30am, we’ll open the doors to Mister New Year’s Eve, bringing the music up for a full party that goes until 6am. No frills, just good tunes on an amazing sound system with plenty of room to dance. (Planetarium guests can stick around for the party.)

We hope to see you at one or both. For now, stay warm, and have a good one!

Indoors at Nowadays

The time is finally here.

After years and years of wading through the maze of New York real estate, protracted build-outs, and seemingly endless permitting hurdles, it’s happening. We are opening Indoors at Nowadays this Friday for our first two parties and our first Planetarium. Then, next Thursday, we’ll open our doors permanently for eating, drinking, learning, dancing, listening and hanging out, seven days a week.

We’ve posted listings and tickets to all our events here. In short, we’ll be doing parties every ThursdayFriday and Saturday. Thursdays will be free. We’re also making Planetarium – our six-hour-long listening session where you can bring pillows, blankets and sleeping bags to cozy up on the floor and get lost in music – a weekly Sunday happening.

To start it all off, Bearcat, Precolumbian and Night Doll play the opening party on Friday. We’ll do our very first Mister Saturday Night Indoors at Nowadays on Saturday; and on Sunday we’ll do our first Planetarium, with special guest Huerco S performing live, and our new resident DJ Josh Dunn.

You can get a sneak preview of what the indoors looks like here. To hear that custom sound, you’ll have to come in person. (It’s so good!!!)

And that’s it! Thank you so much for your support and for making the Mister family what it is. We’re super stoked to share it all with you and to build our community alongside you.

London and Oslo

Eamon and Justin are headed to London and Oslo this weekend. On Friday night, they’re playing all night at Phonox in Brixton, and on Saturday night, they’re on at Dattera Til Hagen. Tickets and info for both are here. If you know folks in either town, let ’em know. And if you’re nearby, go say hey!

Halloween in the Shadow of the Moon

On the eve of the eve of the eve of Hallow’s Eve, we’re doing our annual dance in a place we know works best – surrounded by the trees at Nowadays. We bring you Mister Halloween Night: In The Shadow of the Moon, a seance under the stars.

Don your cloaks, you deerskin hoods and your comfortable shoes, for seers Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter will conjure the future and past with ritualistic rhythms. The dance floor will be shrouded in light to beckon the spirits; and we’ll have potions, ales and mulled wine to keep you warm on the inside and outside. Beyond the drinks, we’ll have a couple other things to make sure it’s temperate.

Advance tickets are always a good idea, and wearing a costume is essential. If you need inspiration, think witches, druidic robes, ouija boards, The Wicker Man.

The dance runs from 5pm to 11pm, and you can RSVP to get in for $20 before 7pm. Just keep in mind that the only way to guarantee admission is with an advance ticket.

We look forward to communing with you. For now, goodbye!
