The Mister Sunday Season Closer

The outdoor season has come to a close. Our last Mister Sunday before we pack up the trees for the winter and head inside is this Sunday, October 22nd. Come get your dance on. The weather seems to agree that you should do this.

RSVP for early, discounted entry, and get tickets here. The party runs from 3pm to 9pm is all ages and all walks of life. Skaters, non-conformists, grandmas, leather daddies, dogs, babies and everybody else. Just as long as you’re nice.

We’ll see ya soon!

Repealing The Cabaret Law

It’s a really important day for arts and culture in New York City. We can all do something to make an impact.

The NYC Cabaret Law – a law that makes dancing illegal at all but about 100 venues in New York – is the subject of a City Council public hearing today. 16 Council Members have signed on to the repeal of the law; 10 more are needed for cabaret to be DONE.

Every New York City voter can do something now to see it go away.

Please take a moment to call your NYC Council Member. You can find your Council Person’s name and number by entering your address here.

Once you’ve found your Council Member’s name, look at the list below to find their legislative office number, and call them. Don’t wait until later. Do it now while it’s on the top of your head. It’ll take you less than five minutes!

Council Members in bold have signed on. All the others are a priority on the call list. If a council member hears from even a handful of constituents, they take note, so this action is truly meaningful.

When you get someone on the phone, ask them to vote in favor of the Let NYC Dance Bill #1652. There’s a nice script (and a bevy of information) on the Let NYC Dance site if you need some guidance. If no one picks up the phone, leave a message.

Without further ado, here’s that list of Council Members:

Bout Time: Mister Sunday in London, August 27th

The last time we did our own proper party in London was almost a year ago (in that big ol’ church in Hackney). But after a long search for a special place to do our thing in the Big Smoke, we’ve found it, and we’ve set a date.On Sunday, August 27th we’re taking over York Hall, a storied Victorian building in Bethnal Green with a nearly hundred-year-old basement bathhouse and a boxing gymnasium where Lennox Lewis and Audley Harrison have duked it out. We’re taking over the skylit main room for Carnival Sunday, installing a nice sound system, bringing way too many records, blowing up some balloons and getting the wood floors primed for an afternoon dance. The party goes from 4pm to 11pm.We’ll have drinks and food that won’t break the bank. Bring a friend or two, or come solo and make one. Tickets are here.

We’ll see ya soon.

Eamon Goes Independent

This weekend is our July 4th Weekend special. Eamon Harkin will be taking the reins of the party on his own for six hours. The parties where the guys get to play solo are special ones that they spend days preparing for in the studio, pulling records that don’t normally get aired at the party. Here’s four hours from Eamon a couple summers ago to get you in the mood.

Tickets are here, and you can RSVP to get in for $15 before 5pm.

We’re looking forward to seeing you down there. Please shoot us an email at ask@mistersaturdaynight.com with any questions you have.

Mister 250: The 250th Mister Ever

It’s the 250th Mister ever.

Since January of 2009, we’ve loaded our sound system into and out of over twenty-five back yards and lofts, acquired way too many records, spent nearly two thousand hours in the DJ booth, and – most importantly – found a family of people who love music as much as us.

While we’ve never been ones for anniversaries or birthdays, throwing our two-hundred-and-fiftieth party at the venue we’ve been building from the ground up feels like something worth celebrating. So today we’re bringing in our friend Jeff Ralston to decorate Nowadays for the occasion; we’re packing record bags full of Mister Sunday and Saturday Night classics; and we’re lining up surprises. (We do a mean surprise.)

As a big thank you for making the party what it’s become, it’ll be free before 5pm if you get in on the RSVPs while we’ve still got ’em. (The link is over on the right, above the flyers). We’ve allotted a big chunk of those free RSVP spots, but whenever they run out, we’ll also have tickets here, too.

The party’s all ages, kid-friendly, dog-friendly, cat-friendly, bear-friendly, skater-friendly, queer-friendly, raver-friendly, burner-friendly, local-friendly, cool-kid-friendly, art-student-friendly, them-friendly, and grandma-friendly as usual.

In other words, you’re welcome here. Whether it’s your first time or your 250th, we can’t wait to celebrate with you.

Big Love,

Eamon and Justin
