Music We’re Feeling: Mount Kimbie

Making frequent appearances on the home stereo these days, Mount Kimbie is a new favorite of ours. A duo that’s performed live alongside another one of our musical crushes, James Blake, Mount Kimbie’s sound relies more heavily on the white noise of field recordings than the lonesome vocalist’s. This video is for a track from their debut full-length, Crooks and Lovers, which was released back in September.

Other Nights of the Week: Kafka, Cave and Koze


Here it is, folks. This week’s run down of what we’ll be doing or wishing we were doing. On Tuesday, a trio of contemporary composers takes the tiny stage at Joe’s Pub; on Wednesday a newly restored version of Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless is running at Film Forum; and on Thursday, the Phillip Seymour Hoffman who’s not an actor, but rather a drone musician, creates some sonic architecture at Glasslands.

We’re DJing the Down N Derby roller disco at Good Units on Friday, and on Saturday, while we’re up in Boston, DJ Koze and Isolee will be making beautiful things happen at Santos Party House. We’re hoping to make it back in time for BAM’s matinee of Metamorphosis, a version of the Kafka novella with a score by Nick Cave and Bad Seed, Warren Ellis.

Other Nights of the Week: Getting Inflated for Thanksgiving

It’s Thanksgiving week, and we’re taking it easy. I’m out in San Fran with my Mom, and Eamon’s headed to Ireland to visit his folks (and play a party in his hometown of Derry). If you’re itching for something to do in the city this week, here are a couple picks, probably what we’d be doing if we were around. We hope you have a great Thanksgiving, and we’ll see you for roller skating next Friday!
