President Mister Saturday Lover

It’s President’s Day weekend. It’s Valentine’s Day weekend. There’s twice the love in the air than a typical long weekend, and we’re doing everything we can to get in the spirit. We’ve got an open bar with Presidente and Champagne to start off the upcoming Mister Saturday Night, and the music is going to be ludicrously good. Justin and Eamon are dropping some gems they picked up over the last few weekends they spent out of town (check the twitter feed for some New Orleans pictures).

The special guest for this weekend is Floating Points. He is astounding, a twenty-three-year-old neuroscientist by day, and by night a producer of some of the most brilliant, musical, evocative tracks we’ve heard in years. If you have come to a Mister Saturday Night party, or heard Eamon and Justin play anywhere in the past year, chances are that you’ve heard his music (and probably loved it). He’s a bridge between dubstep, house and jazz; and everyone from our moms to the most hardened, devout house or techno or disco purists agree. He’s magic.

Unfortunately Azari & III will not be performing because of a passport issue with their vocalist, but fear not, we’re already talking to them about another time… And this weekend’s going to be good no matter what.

February with Larry Heard, Floating Points and Azari & III

January was amazing. And February is poised to keep things at the fever pitch. Justin and Eamon are playing with a legendary long-time music maker and two of the most promising newcomers on the scene, and they’re hosting Mister Saturday Night at our two favorite underground venues.

On February 13, at our home loft, Market Hotel, our guests are Floating Points and Azari and III. This’ll be the first Stateside gig for Floating Points and the first ever live set for A&III in New York. On February 27, the wonderful, legendary Larry Heard is DJing with the boys at 12-turn-13, a very intimate home that only occasionally opens its doors to a party. We hosted Moodymann there back in October, and it was outstanding. We’ll post tracks, interviews and other goodies here in the lead-up to the parties, but for now we wish you a nice week. Have a great one!

Traxx Tackles Some Big Questions

Before anything else, let’s just take a moment to say, “WOW.” This past Saturday night was just insane. To paint a little picture, we opened the window behind the DJ booth at 7:45am, and there was a subway worker dancing on the tracks of the JMZ. We hope you enjoyed yourself. And if you didn’t make it down, well, you’ve got another opportunity to come out this Saturday.

Our guest will be Traxx, a Chicago music maker and record player, whose recent LP, Faith, has gotten a good bit of well deserved attention, and whose DJ sets are said to be inspired. We had the opportunity to toss him some questions in the lead-up to the party, which we were very excited to do: He’s a man with a lot to say, as you’ll see below.

We’re looking forward to seeing you this weekend. Grab your advance tickets here, or RSVP to mister@mistersaturdaynight.com to get in for $10 before midnight. Now on with the show. Continue reading “Traxx Tackles Some Big Questions”

Moving into 2010 with DJ Harvey

It’s halfway through January, and Mister Saturday Night is making good on his New Year’s resolution—to put together parties that are as close to ideal as they can be. After all, NYE was kind of epic wasn’t it? To that end we’re back on January 16th running our 10,000 Watts of Turbosound at the perfect level, serving up an open bar of beer from 10 to 11, and residents Eamon and Justin are playing their best jams in the homey loft at 1142 Myrtle alongside a super special guest.

That guest is none other than DJ Harvey, the man behind the infamous Black Cock edits and, most importantly, a DJ who’s unafraid to take a night in unpredictable, exciting directions. Who knows what it’ll sound like? Only one thing’s for sure. It’s gonna be nice.

Open Bar and Omar S. It’s New Years Eve with Mister Saturday Night.

Holy cow. We’re out of the single digits of the 2000s. Come say goodbye to the first decade of the third millennium (Anno Domini); we had a good time, and it deserves a good send-off. We’re taking on the holiday with reckless abandon, tuning the killer sound system for maximum output, serving up free drinks all night long and playing the special, celebratory jams that are only fit for a night fueled by sparkling wine. Justin even has a New Orleans brass band version of Auld Lang Syne he might play before the ball drops, and we’re sure Eamon’s got something special up his sleeve.

And did we mention our special guest? His name is Omar S, and he’s one of the best DJs we’ve ever had at Mister Saturday Night or any other party we’ve thrown for that matter. We think he’ll be in a particularly celebratory mood, as 2009 was pretty good to him: It was the year he released his Fabric mix (RA’s vote for best mix CD for the year) and the year that he launched from being a staple of the Detroit underground to one of the most sought after DJs and producers in the world. He’ll drop his first record right after the ball drops. Happy New Year, indeed.
