Mark E Joins Us at 12-turn-13

After a superb night with DJ Rolando, Justin and Eamon at House of Yes, the Mister is back at the beloved party place 12-turn-13, happy to host another stellar guest: Mark E.

Producer of all things long, slow and burning, Mark Evetts began developing his style with tasteful, heady disco edits. He then went on to start his own label, MERC, defining his sound through a series of self-releases. The most recent example of his excellence is Stone Breaker, his debut LP released this year on Spectral Sound. Required listening.

Accompanying Justin, Eamon and Mark will of course be the indominable vibe at 12-turn-13, with an all-inclusive dancefloor and sprawling rooftop. It’s the best kept secret on Classon Avenue. Catch the tide at 10 for an hour of beer on the house, and RSVP to mister@mistersaturdaynight.com for $15 admission before midnight.

And like Bill Cosby says, don’t boogie on my face. Thanks.

Mister Saturday Knight

We’re back to the House of Yes for another fine evening of Mister Saturday Nighting, and we’re quite excited to be hosting a guest alongside Eamon and Justin for the first time since way back in September. That guest? A Detroit legend whose last time in New York was so long ago, we don’t remember it: DJ Rolando.

According to “Mad” Mike Banks, co-founder of Detroit’s Underground Resistance label, he first came across DJ Rolando spinning Latin Freestyle music at a club in the D. Hearing his talent immediately, Mike asked him to join the UR team; and not too long after that, Rolando produced what would become one of the biggest cross-over techno tracks in history, “Knights of the Jaguar.” Soon after, he left UR to forge his own way from a new home-base in Edinburgh, where he’s kept his (astounding) DJ skills honed and produced records that have been released on Holland’s Delsin label and the Berghain-based label, Ostgut Ton. Not too shabby.

What else? Well, there’s the 10,000 watts of Turbosound, the nice people and the cozy couches. And if you come by at 10, there’s an hour of beer on the house. RSVP to mister@mistersaturdaynight.com to get in for $15 before midnight.

See you there.

A Charm

After a blast-off of a Halloween party and an atmospheric come down on November 5,  we’re once again flying solo for this edition of the Mister, our third installment at House of Yes. You know what they say about third times.

Party starts at 10 and goes till it can’t go no more; beer’s on the house for the first hour; and if you send an RSVP to mister@mistersaturdaynight.com, it’ll be $10 before midnight.

And that’s that. We’ll see you at the Yes.

Just Say Yes

DUE TO ILLNESS, SOUND STREAM WON’T BE PERFORMING WITH US THIS WEEKEND. WE’RE WORKING ON A MAKE-UP DATE WITH HIM NOW, AND THE PARTY GOES ON THIS WEEKEND AND THE PRICE HAS BEEN REDUCED by $5.

The weather is getting colder, but the Misters just keep getting warmer. We’re gearing up for a second round of get-down at House of Yes, a simultaneously intimate and grandiose space that feels just right. Classic hardwood floors, a cozy lounge area, and a disco ball hung from thirty feet up are just the beginning. Just say “Yes!” Holding it down on the gravity-defying turntables for the entire evening are, of course, Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin. Arrive early, and enjoy the first hour of beer on the house.

Finally, some parting words from Mister Albert Camus: “Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.” What he said.

Mister Halloween Night: A Space Odyssey

It’s official. NASA did its final space shuttle launch in June of this year, so the Mister is answering the call of duty, grabbing the wheel and taking a trip to outer space for this year’s Mister Halloween Night. Our favorite loft, 12-turn-13, is being transformed into Apollo 12-turn-13 – a spaceship capable of traveling to distant planets in but a few hours.

Captains Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter will be piloting the ship all night, a large window into the cosmos has been designed by first mate Doctor Mojo (we call him Number One), and inflatable spaceship things will be installed by Jeffrey Ralston (we call him Data).

Astral outfits will be rewarded with an on-the-house drink. Think constellations, alien life forms (yes, that is a hint that we want you to dress up as ALF), astronauts and anything else that will make you feel at home in space. If you want some inspiration, check the trailers for Fifth Element, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Barbarella, Buck Rogers and Spaceballs. Remember that the more group costumes on the spaceship, the farther and faster it’ll travel (yes, that is a hint that we want to see the entire crew of the Enterprise onboard).

Boarding is at 10pm. Get there soon after. It would be a shame to miss liftoff.
