This Weekend’s Jam

Ok folks, this weekend’s party is almost upon us. Hope you’re as excited as we are. We’ve got a wonderful new spot with wooden floors, and outdoor terrace and plenty of bathrooms. (You’ll enter through the gate that you see in the middle of the picture below.) On the music front we’re delighted to have a truly talented guest in the form of Keith Worthy joining Eamon and Justin.

We’re being discrete with the venue address, so if you don’t know the location already, pop an email to mister [at] mistersaturdaynight [dot] com, and we’ll make sure you get all the information you need. Just do us a favor and don’t post it anywhere public.

Thanks, and we’ll see you there!

Mixes from Mister Saturday Night & Optimo

About a month ago we closed out the summer at our sister party Sunday Best with two of the most memorable parties of the year. The first of the two saw our friends Optimo play a blinding set which has been the source of many an excitable conversation around these parts since.

Then, the week after, a large and enthusiastic crowd came out to see Justin and Eamon playing back to back as ‘Mister Saturday Night’ and take the series home alongside sets from Sunday Best’s third resident Doug Singer. And so here, with much pleasure, we provide both sets for your downloading pleasure.

The Hustler

This Saturday we have Keith Worthy bringing his deep, hypnotic and distinctly Detroit vibes to Mister Saturday Night. We’ve told you a lot about the new space already, so now it’s time to take a moment to get to know our talented guest a little more. We fired a few questions at him earlier this week. Here’s what he had to say.

Mister Saturday Night: You’ve been busy recently. Traveling, taking in a lot gigs & reaping well-deserved success it would seem. How do you feel about this particular time for you?

Keith Worthy: It’s always feels good when people are interested and appreciate what you are doing, and it’s cool to visit other parts of the world and meet and play for people who get down the way that you do… but I stay away from using the word ‘success’… it’s relative depending on what your goal really is. Feeling Early Balearic Beat

The original Balearic sound as originally crafted and expressed by DJ Alfredo and taken forward by Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold and Trevor Fung has held quite a lot of musical interest for me lately.

The approach of having a healthy disregard for genre, whilst at the same time not compromising on the creation of a cohesive, layered, ever-building mood appropriate to the (sun drenched) surroundings, is part of an art form which only a handful of legendary jocks over the decades have pulled off. And Mister Alfredo was one of them.

Since that time Ibiza has gone on to construe a lot of good and bad about dance music and club culture. But it’s the early days when Alfredo was doing his thing, and Oakenfold and Rampling were importing the sounds back to the UK which I’ve been digging into a little further lately.

So I thought I’d share a couple of favorite jams which are associated with that time and which you may have heard weaved into a set or two over the summer at Mister Saturday Night.

Elkin & Nelson – “Jibaro”

Jean Luc Ponty – “In The Fast Lane”

If you want to explore more for yourself I’d recommend the Balearic Beats Vol. 1 compilation or Danny Rampling’s Break for Love compilation.

Optimo at The Best

It was one of many highlights of the summer – the occasion where Optimo and Mister Saturday Night rubbed shoulders at our sister party Sunday Best. We stumbled across some great footage from the day, so we just had to share it with you.
