For any MSN loyalists who dabble in sound art, this just caught our eye. The North Brooklyn Public Art Coalition is looking for a Brooklyn-based sound artist to create a large-scale installation next spring. The Coalition is offering up a $5,000 budget and help securing a public space anywhere in Williamsburg, Bushwick or Greenpoint. Submissions are due August 30, so think fast. And if you need a little aural inspiration, keep reading.
American artist Bill Fontana’s most recent installation, hidden in the depths of London’s Somerset House, is an incredible example of site-specific sound design. The River Sounding project features more than 100 field recordings of the nearby Thames, embedded within the foundations of the riverside landmark.
