Anthony Naples Takes the Reins

an_sbBack in 2012 we released the first EP on Mister Saturday Night Records. It was a collection of three songs from a young guy named Anthony Naples, a regular on the Mister dancefloor. He’d never released a record; and in fact, he’d never even finished a track before he gave us the final tunes; but they were excellent, and when we released them, people got really excited.

Flash forward a few years, and Anthony’s become an important music maker for a lot of people. He released a second EP for us, a couple EPs on Trilogy Tapes, a cohesive and mature LP on Four Tet’s Text label; and he built up his chops as a DJ. In fact, he moved out of the city for a couple years to play gigs all over the world.

But now he’s back in New York (for good, we hope), and to celebrate, we’ve decided to do something we’ve never done before: hand the reins of an entire Mister Saturday Night party over to someone else.

On Saturday, November 21st, Anthony Naples will control the Mister Saturday Night soundsystem from 10pm to 4am at Silent Barn, one of our favorite places for a party in New York City. Not only does our system sound great in the room; there’s a barber shop in the back, a vintage clothing stand, crates of records to dig through, a nice outdoor patio, and a bar with inexpensive drinks.

We can’t wait to hear what Anthony pulls out of his bag, and we can’t wait to have a dance with you. Until then…

A Friend In Need

If you’ve joined us at Mister Sunday over the past four years, or if you’ve come to Nowadays for a drink, chances are you’ve had the good fortune to interact with our friend, Adam Roth. Adam is a great musician, a dad, and an all around excellent guy who mans the bar and spreads good humor at the Mister.

A couple weeks ago, totally out of the blue, he was diagnosed with stage four bile duct cancer. Given no hope for a cure through traditional western medicine, he’s seeking alternative treatments which aren’t covered by insurance.

His family has started a fund raising page to help pay for his treatments, and it’s been heartening – though thouroughly unsurprising given how great a guy he is – to see an outpouring of support. We’re coming to you now in hopes that we can add to that support through our community.

Donating something will obviously be financially meaningful to Adam and his family; but even more, it will be evidence of the massive amount of love and support he has. Whether it’s by giving a couple dollars or more, we hope you’ll join us in showing Adam how much we love him. This is where you can give.

Thanks for taking the time to read, and thanks for being part of our big family. We’ll see you soon.

Mister Sunday, Back In London

uk-1108-751631-601086-backIt’s our last Mister Sunday of 2015, and it’s happening in London. Eamon and Justin, who’ve each taken a solo turn in the last two London editions of the Mister, will both be on hand for this one.

As usual, we’ll have jerk chicken on the patio, massive windows for the sunset, and plenty of seats and ping pong tables for the hang. Tickets are here. If you’re not in London but have friends there, let ’em know!

Mister Halloween Night: Sold Out

Hey, folks.

Tickets are completely sold out for our Halloween party, and there won’t be any available at the door. If you’re still holding on to hope for a ticket, the only way to get one is through RA’s resale system. The RA resale system allows ticket purchasers to repost a ticket for sale through this page. If someone posts their ticket for resale, it will appear here as if tickets are on sale as usual. (If you see tickets available, buy them fast!)

If we don’t see you Saturday night; have no fear. We’ve got more parties coming up. Just grab a ticket now to be sure you can join us!

The First Dance at Nowadays and the Outdoor Finale

First off, thank you.

We had a great run at Industry City, and more specifically, we had a great last party there. Thanks for braving the cold and dancing with us. It meant a lot to us.

Now, we’re looking forward to a bright future (and a warmer Sunday!). Our last hurrah of the outdoor season is the first hurrah of many at Nowadays, our very own place, built by us with Mister Sunday specifically in mind. (Take note of the springy dancefloor that’s even bigger than the one we had at Industry City!)

Tickets for this Sunday’s party are here, and if you wanna see the Nowadays dancefloor in action, check our last Boiler Room episode.

Looking forward to showing you the place in action, and we’re looking forward to getting down with you one more time in the great outdoors before the winter sets in.
