Moving into 2010 with DJ Harvey

It’s halfway through January, and Mister Saturday Night is making good on his New Year’s resolution—to put together parties that are as close to ideal as they can be. After all, NYE was kind of epic wasn’t it? To that end we’re back on January 16th running our 10,000 Watts of Turbosound at the perfect level, serving up an open bar of beer from 10 to 11, and residents Eamon and Justin are playing their best jams in the homey loft at 1142 Myrtle alongside a super special guest.

That guest is none other than DJ Harvey, the man behind the infamous Black Cock edits and, most importantly, a DJ who’s unafraid to take a night in unpredictable, exciting directions. Who knows what it’ll sound like? Only one thing’s for sure. It’s gonna be nice.

Open Bar and Omar S. It’s New Years Eve with Mister Saturday Night.

Holy cow. We’re out of the single digits of the 2000s. Come say goodbye to the first decade of the third millennium (Anno Domini); we had a good time, and it deserves a good send-off. We’re taking on the holiday with reckless abandon, tuning the killer sound system for maximum output, serving up free drinks all night long and playing the special, celebratory jams that are only fit for a night fueled by sparkling wine. Justin even has a New Orleans brass band version of Auld Lang Syne he might play before the ball drops, and we’re sure Eamon’s got something special up his sleeve.

And did we mention our special guest? His name is Omar S, and he’s one of the best DJs we’ve ever had at Mister Saturday Night or any other party we’ve thrown for that matter. We think he’ll be in a particularly celebratory mood, as 2009 was pretty good to him: It was the year he released his Fabric mix (RA’s vote for best mix CD for the year) and the year that he launched from being a staple of the Detroit underground to one of the most sought after DJs and producers in the world. He’ll drop his first record right after the ball drops. Happy New Year, indeed.

Mister John Tejada

Mister Saturday Night is back at 1142 Myrtle for one last go round in 2009 before the New Year’s party. The wood has been worked in right by the soundsystem over the past few weeks, and everything is running like clockwork. Justin and Eamon are rocking nice, long sets of their favorite sundries, sometimes harder and sometimes softer; the open bar’s keeping things well oiled; and our special guests have been killing it.

Tonight our pal John Tejada is joining us allllll the way from the west coast. Known as a prolific producer, Tejada’s DJ sets are, to say the least, impressive. He masterfully strings together known themes from his own music with others beats and melodies, creating an experience that’s as brain-moving as it is hip-shaking.

Catching Up With Ewan Pearson

We love Ewan Pearson. There we said it. Why? Well, first of all he’s one of our favorite DJs on the planet, never failing to be totally on point with his sets, whether it’s a small intimate loft jam (like Mister Saturday Night this weekend) or a summer festival in Europe. But he’s also a thoroughly nice bloke, a friend and undoubtedly one of the most intelligent men in dance music, with something insightful and inspiring to say each time we talk to him. So we had to pin him down again to get his thoughts on a couple of topics on our mind ahead of the next installment of Mister Saturday Night… Continue reading “Catching Up With Ewan Pearson”

Mister Saturday Night Gets Enthusiastic for Ewan Pearson

It’s already December, and we’re back at the homebase for another lofty jam on the 5th. Eamon and Justin will be heat things up with nice, deep house and techno; and maybe we’ll get some special whiskey to warm your belly. Our special guest and good friend, Ewan Pearson, is certain to heat things up as well.

Ewan’s been integral to many facets of the dance music scene since he started making records in 1996. He’s banged out techno via his Soma and Kompakt releases, produced sounds of a more lush varietal in his work with Junior Boys and Everything But The Girl’s Tracey Thorn, and he’s even thrown a little dance rock down the pipe with The Rapture. To boot he’s written a book, and he’s got a Master’s degree in philosophy. And we haven’t even mentioned his work as a DJ yet. In short, excellent. What else would you expect?
