Mixes from Mister Saturday Night & Optimo

About a month ago we closed out the summer at our sister party Sunday Best with two of the most memorable parties of the year. The first of the two saw our friends Optimo play a blinding set which has been the source of many an excitable conversation around these parts since.

Then, the week after, a large and enthusiastic crowd came out to see Justin and Eamon playing back to back as ‘Mister Saturday Night’ and take the series home alongside sets from Sunday Best’s third resident Doug Singer. And so here, with much pleasure, we provide both sets for your downloading pleasure.

Word To The Wise

'Word to the Wise' is the debut EP from Harkin & Raney on The Rapture and James Friedman's Throne of Blood imprint. Harkin you know, of course, as Mister Saturday Night's very own Eamon Harkin; and Raney is Steve Raney aka Oneauff, his production partner and good pal who hails from North Carolina but is now firmly ensconced in Brooklyn, where the duo have tirelessly been working away on original material and remixes. Mister Saturday Night Live

It’s been more than a while since we posted some live recordings from Mister Saturday Night. The good news is we have three solid mixes for you here and now which comprise the bulk of the party from June 12th at Brooklyn Fire Proof, our first get-down in their wonderful courtyard, the place we’re mostly calling home for the summer.

That night, Eamon got things started, and Justin took it home. In between we had a sweet set of deep house from Mister Rick Wade. Give your ears a treat, and have a listen.

Music From The Mister Saturday Night Boys

The gents behind Mister Saturday Night have been taking their moments off from throwing parties and DJing to spend some time in the studio. Justin, a longtime songwriter and singer (if you get close enough to the booth during his sets, you’ll probably hear him belting along with CeCe Peniston and Donny Hathaway), co-wrote and does lead and backing vocals on the title track of the new Great Weekend EP It’s Now.

Mister Harkin, who’s put out a solo edit record or two already, has recently been working in the studio with a North Carolinian named Steve Raney. The two of them tried their hands at remixing Neurotic Drum Band’s steamy Robotic Hypnotic Adventure, and well, their version is dope. Clearly we’re biased, but really. Dope.

Both records are out at this very moment on Wurst, our compadres in New York who are keeping it real and pressing up good music on VINYL! A Soundcloud stream of both jams are below. Enjoy.

Populette – Mommy (Harkin & Raney Remix)

Populette are Brooklyn’s Max Pask and Andrew Potter. Their debut single on Throne of Blood is called ‘Mommy’. They asked label mates Harkin & Raney (Mister Saturday Night’s Eamon Harkin and his production buddy Steve Raney) to turn in a remix for the 12″ release. This is it.
