A Last Minute Chat

We just got this interview between Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys, our guest tomorrow night, and Mister Steve Rogenstein, aka the Art Corp and the man behind 12 Turn 13, into our mail box, just in time to share with you ahead of tomorrow night’s party.

Have a read…

Steve Rogenstein: You’re primarily known for your studio work and live performances, yet the Body Language CD from a couple years ago cast you as a DJ. What was your DJ experience before then?

Jeremy Greenspan: We [Jeremy and Matthew Didemus, his partner in Junior Boys] both started as DJs. Matt and I used to DJ at parties when we were teenagers. We had a radio show, which at first was mainly drum and bass, but fairly quickly turned into garage and house. Then we had a residency at a club in Hamilton [in Ontario, Canada, their hometown] at some point in the late 90s. All that stuff was long long before we had even thought of Junior Boys. The Boys Are Back In Town

12-Turn-13 has played host to Mister Saturday Night on two occasions and both have been some of the most special parties we’ve thrown.

The first time, Kenny Dixon, Jr. stopped the music, and held one of his beloved records in the air and proudly declared, “See this? This is is VINYL. I brought this sh*t on the motherf#$king plane!” Then back in February, Justin and Eamon played two of their most well received sets to a packed house alongside a graceful performance from the one and only Larry Heard.

Well, this Saturday we’re back and we think it’s going to be another special one. The usual team are on board to make it feel like home. As always the DJ booth is set up in the kitchen on top of the stove; the dancefloor will will be surrounded by our favorite soundsystem; and the roof, which will come in especially handy on this warm (but much, much cooler than it’s been) July evening, will be available so there’s plenty of room to chat, cool off and wander under the stars.

Once again we’ve got a special guest on board for the evening — Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys. This isn’t just a celebrity set from a band you love, though. Jeremy is a bona fide disc jockey, having released a top-notch mix CD on Get Physical a couple years back and spending plenty of time around the world mixing records.

Sounds like a good time to us… We’ll see you then.

Coming Together

Things are really coming together at our current home, Brooklyn Fire Proof. Last week completed the vision we had for the charming court yard. That is, a great outdoor dance party in the hot Brooklyn night, an awesome New York crowd getting down in an interesting and original setting with great music, food, drink and wonderful visuals. It’s the Mister Saturday Night vibe!

This weekend we’re, of course, doing it all again, and this one has the potential to go to another level. It’s always a special occasion when Eamon and Justin play alongside our good friend and hero Harvey Bassett aka DJ Harvey, but this party is an even bigger deal than usual. It serves as his send off to Europe, as he returns triumphantly to the homeland after a long, long hiatus. Expect spirits to be running high.

Remember the festivities kick-off at 6pm and end at 2am so get there early, grab a taco and a Six Point beer and soak it all up. There are just a few $10 tickets left so move quickly to snap them up.

Ivan The Terrible

The Mister returns for its second excursion outdoors at the charming Brooklyn Fire Proof courtyard. Last time round worked out really nicely (keep an eye out for live mixes from the night coming soon) so we’re doing it all again but this time rolling a little later to 2am. We’ll have Tacos on the menu again courtesy of Taccolada so you can take in dinner early and ease into the party with a drink from the well selected bar.

Eamon and Justin may take it upon themselves to push the musical boundaries a little harder as they welcome a French man who is no stranger to the weirder and more wonderful sounds of dance floor. Ivan Smagghe is a DJ we’ve admired for some time now. He’s an intriguing character so we grabbed a few words with him today in an attempt to learn what makes the him tick. Have a read. Populette – Mommy (Harkin & Raney Remix)

Populette are Brooklyn’s Max Pask and Andrew Potter. Their debut single on Throne of Blood is called ‘Mommy’. They asked label mates Harkin & Raney (Mister Saturday Night’s Eamon Harkin and his production buddy Steve Raney) to turn in a remix for the 12″ release. This is it.
