Following on from previous posts covering the house sounds of the seminal Junior Boys Own imprint and the marvelous MK here’s a look at another great production style from the 90s – the Red Zone remixes from New York’s own David Morales.
Morales was one of the first super star DJs, breaking through in the early 90s after receiving critical recognition from Larry Levan. He carved out a lucrative career as a remixer at a time when a house remix was a must for all major label releases. It’s his Red Zone remixes and in particular the dub versions which catch my ear. Here are 5 of my favorites.
