The Boys Are Back In Town

12-Turn-13 has played host to Mister Saturday Night on two occasions and both have been some of the most special parties we’ve thrown.

The first time, Kenny Dixon, Jr. stopped the music, and held one of his beloved records in the air and proudly declared, “See this? This is is VINYL. I brought this sh*t on the motherf#$king plane!” Then back in February, Justin and Eamon played two of their most well received sets to a packed house alongside a graceful performance from the one and only Larry Heard.

Well, this Saturday we’re back and we think it’s going to be another special one. The usual team are on board to make it feel like home. As always the DJ booth is set up in the kitchen on top of the stove; the dancefloor will will be surrounded by our favorite soundsystem; and the roof, which will come in especially handy on this warm (but much, much cooler than it’s been) July evening, will be available so there’s plenty of room to chat, cool off and wander under the stars.

Once again we’ve got a special guest on board for the evening — Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys. This isn’t just a celebrity set from a band you love, though. Jeremy is a bona fide disc jockey, having released a top-notch mix CD on Get Physical a couple years back and spending plenty of time around the world mixing records.

Sounds like a good time to us… We’ll see you then.

Coming Together

Things are really coming together at our current home, Brooklyn Fire Proof. Last week completed the vision we had for the charming court yard. That is, a great outdoor dance party in the hot Brooklyn night, an awesome New York crowd getting down in an interesting and original setting with great music, food, drink and wonderful visuals. It’s the Mister Saturday Night vibe!

This weekend we’re, of course, doing it all again, and this one has the potential to go to another level. It’s always a special occasion when Eamon and Justin play alongside our good friend and hero Harvey Bassett aka DJ Harvey, but this party is an even bigger deal than usual. It serves as his send off to Europe, as he returns triumphantly to the homeland after a long, long hiatus. Expect spirits to be running high.

Remember the festivities kick-off at 6pm and end at 2am so get there early, grab a taco and a Six Point beer and soak it all up. There are just a few $10 tickets left so move quickly to snap them up.

Ivan The Terrible

The Mister returns for its second excursion outdoors at the charming Brooklyn Fire Proof courtyard. Last time round worked out really nicely (keep an eye out for live mixes from the night coming soon) so we’re doing it all again but this time rolling a little later to 2am. We’ll have Tacos on the menu again courtesy of Taccolada so you can take in dinner early and ease into the party with a drink from the well selected bar.

Eamon and Justin may take it upon themselves to push the musical boundaries a little harder as they welcome a French man who is no stranger to the weirder and more wonderful sounds of dance floor. Ivan Smagghe is a DJ we’ve admired for some time now. He’s an intriguing character so we grabbed a few words with him today in an attempt to learn what makes the him tick. Have a read. Mister Saturday Evening

This Saturday we’re heading to the great outdoors in Brooklyn for a special sunset and early evening get-down under the stars. We’ll be setting up shop in an alley next to a quaint Bushwick bar at Brooklyn Fire Proof, serving up cold beverages and chowing down with the good folks from Taccolada. The party starts at 6pm and runs to midnight, so bring an appetite and a thirst, and we’ll take care of you for the duration.

Eamon and Justin are rocking the party as only they can, and their special guest Rick Wade, a man, who alongside Kenny Dixon Jr and Theo Parrish pioneered the beautiful sounds of deep Detroit House, will make a rare Brooklyn appearance.

Summer Nights

Summer nights in New York are a wonderful thing, and we’ve got some special treats in store for another hot season. On June 12th we head for the great outdoors with a special sunset and early evening get-down under the big, Brooklyn sky. We’ll be setting up shop in an alley next to a quaint Bushwick bar, serving up cold beverages and chowing down with the good folks from Taccolada and special guest Rick Wade will be with us for the night.

On June 26th we’re making a rare sojourn into Manhattan to a secret spot which we think will work just perfectly for Eamon and Justin getting down with special guest Ivan Smagghe. [post-dated note: This venue, like a lot of other venues this year, ended up being shuttered, and the party went down at Brooklyn Fire Proof.]

Joining Eamon and Justin on July 3rd is our good friend DJ Harvey, returning after a triumphant appearance at the party back in January, as he comes from his west coast base en route to Europe for a MUCH anticipated return to his homeland.

On July 10th we’re back at one of our favorite spots, 12-Turn-13, with Junior Boys coming in for a special DJ set alongside Eamon. The 17th sees a live performance from a man we’ve had our eye on for some time now. Tevo Howard makes beautifully raw, emotive and original house music, and the Chicago man will be debuting his hardware live show in New York before another Chicagoan–Chez Damier–joins the boys on July 24th for a night of deep, deep stuff.

We’re taking a little break thereafter but we’re back with on August 28th when we welcome the return of one of our heroes: Theo Parrish will man the decks with the residents for the second of two dates at 12-Turn-13.

Save those dates…
