Mister Saturday Night Takes Its Revenge

Mister Saturday Night keeps moving ahead at the Market Hotel loft, after this past weekend’s great night. This week we’re adding a nice, young Scotsman to the mix. As usual, solid jams by residents Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter are on the menu alongside an early open bar in a comfy space with no nonsense.

Our guest, The Revenge, aka Graeme Clark, is a Scotish DJ whose original productions range from deep-pocket, low-tempo head nodders to housey hand-in-the-air jams. Since his rise in the scene, he’s yet to play New York (He’s another one, in fact, that we’re not sure has ever played here… We’ll ask about that), and we’re happy to have him.

In A Space With A Train Whizzing By… Justin, Eamon, Scott Grooves and 10K Watts of Turbosound

Mister Saturday Night has got a nice, new, cozy home at the Market Hotel loft. After our early October party with Dixon (check the photos out here courtesy of Marc Whalen), it was clear the right balance had been struck. The space is great: plenty of room to spread out, dance and chat; room for our booming soundsystem (which is now twice the size… 10,000 watts of Turbosound for all you sound nerds out there); and easy access from the train (the JMZ is just out the door, and we see it whizzing by the window all night).

Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter will be dropping their disco, house and other sundries just like you like, and our special guest is Scott Grooves. It’s hard to believe it, but Scott, a Detroit DJ considered one of the best by Omar S, and a producer who’s worked with George Clinton and Roy Ayers, has never played in New York City. Word on the streets of the D is that we’re all in for a treat.

Also, we’re starting off the evening with a little present. Beer is on the house from 10p to 11p, while we play some jams to get you started. We’ll see you then and there.

Day Time with Justin, Eamon and Moodymann

It’s a special Saturday daytime version of Mister Saturday Night at 12-Turn-13, a loft with hardwood floors, hardwood ceilings, and a big, beautiful roof in the middle of Brooklyn. Bloody marys and mimosas are on the menu; our friend Fiore Tedesco from The Brooklyn Laundry is making egg tacos and other brunch snacks; and you, hopefully, are going to bring your little ones and your dogs! We love it when they come.

Eamon and Justin will be pulling out their best daytime jams, and our special guest will be a gent called Moodymann. Last time Moodymann came to town, he ended up doing an impromptu late-night version of Freaky MF live with The Egyptian Lover providing backup on 808. The time before that he played radio DJ all night long, announcing nearly every song and shouting out people’s birthdays. We never know what to expect with Kenny Dixon, Jr., and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

note. We just got hip to the fact that KDJ did an interview and DJ set on Gilles Peterson’s show on BBC about two years ago. Have a listen. It’s insightful and just plain good.

Lofting with Justin, Eamon and Dixon

Mister Saturday Night is back for the fall. We’re trying out a new space and a new format: Lofts only for now. It’s more exciting that way…

Residents Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter are back in full force, coming off a hot summer of gigs at Sunday Best and The Beach Party, where they held their own alongside everyone from Theo Parrish to Justus Kohncke. For the relaunch of Mister Saturday Night, our guest is Mister Steffen Berkhan, also known as Dixon. We’ve been itching to host The Berlin DJ and label boss of Innervisions since we had him at the second season of The Beach Party in the summer of 2007, but he’s a busy man, having only played once in New York since (at the excellent House-n-Home day party last spring). Well, now we’ve got what we wanted.

About Eamon Harkin

Eamon arrived in New York by way of the North of Ireland in 2004, and immediately set about creating ‘Calling All Kids’, a party which played homage to New York legend Arthur Russell and all that he loved about the rich history of downtown New York. The party’s success catapulted him into guest spots at Motherf*cker (sharing bills with the likes The Cramps) and into a residency at FUN, at the now-gone Studio B, where he also actively led the bookings and production and brought a variety of talent through the doors – including Berlin’s boisterous Modeselektor, The Egyptian Lover’s old-school electro, and Escort’s new-school disco. These days, of course, he produces Mister Saturday Night and Mister Sunday and DJs the world over with his partner Justin Carter.

As a producer, Eamon has released critically acclaimed edits, remixes and original productions, on his own and with partner Steve Raney (as Harkin and Raney), for Wurst Music Co, Throne of Blood, Subway Series and On the Prowl. His music has been played by DJ Harvey, Optimo, Rub n Tug, Floating Points, Mark E, Tim Sweeney and Levon Vincent; and it’s driven many a party over the brink.
